A pop down bar with a white background and black text appeared for a scond in my twitter window at the top. The message said “Your twitter status has been updated”. What does that mean?

It means the thing you have written in that bar is post.

These kinds of messages appear when you tweet has been successfully posted. Means message is ready to appear in your followers main timeline. Similar messages also appear when you update your profile or account settings.
