Question by ~~: Speech Tomorrow. Grammer Mistakes?
Hi there! My city is currently about to have an election for mayor. I am supposed to write a speech on why I want a certain candidate to win. I’m not the best at editing my own work… can anyone help point out any grammer mistakes there might be? It’s quite long. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Naheed Nenshi. Passionate. Intelligent. Charismatic. Successful. Those are just a few of the many words that describe him. Hi, my name is **** ****, and I believe that Naheed Nenshi would be an ideal leader for the City of Calgary.
Sure, he may not be as rich as McIver, but he knows how to spend money wisely. Just because you have amazing campaign signs does not mean you will be an amazing mayor. To be a great mayor, you need great campaign IDEAS. That is what Naheed Nenshi offers.
Have you ever heard of the quote, “actions speak louder than words”? Well in this case it’s completely true. Nenshi has amazing credentials that prove to us he will do wonders once he is mayor. Not only has he graduated from the University of Calgary, but also Harvard University. This shows without doubt that he is extremely intelligent. Okay so yeah, he’s not as much of a political person as McIver. However, he went to Harvard to study Government. One of top Universities in the world to study government! That shows he does know politics. He even worked with the United Nations. Which demonstrates that his idea of helping to lower poverty will thrive.
Unlike McIver, Nenshi is a people person. He’s thoughtful, he has integrity, and if you watch his “How do you say Naheed” video on his website, you can tell he has a sense of humor. I’ve met these candidates and I know by just this who can connect with the people of Calgary better. Nenshi used to teach at Mount Royal. He’s also worked at consulting firms and non-profit organizations. During his years at U of C, he was president of the Students Union. Therefore he knows how to connect with people, especially youth like us. Not only that, but this tells us that he would make a powerful leader who knows how to make change happen. Good change.
Nenshi is one of the few candidates who believe the opinion of us youth matter. He believes that we need to be educated on these things for the future. After all, youth are the future. He understands and realizes the best way to connect with the people. He has so many amazing and popular communication tools. Facebook, Text, Twitter Nenshi. He even has his own IPod app! This man has amazing strategies. Everyone knows Banana Republic, the Gap and Old Navy, right? These are very popular and well-known brands. Naheed Nenshi helped create strategies for these names. Imagine all the other things he could do!
For years, Nenshi has traveled around the world and collected ideas so that he could bring it back to create a utopia Calgary.
Nenshi has many policies he plans to place once he is mayor. One policy Nenshi will place once he is mayor is for the Calgary International Airport. He plans to build an airport tunnel so that we can get to and from the airport conveniently. Nenshi also plans to improve the Calgary Transit because currently it’s not the best. Calgary has a money problem and our possible future mayor, Nenshi, has a strong vision so that we can take our tax dollars and build upon a way of spending it. Nenshi also has a good snow removal plan, and wants to help local companies grow. The Best Mayor has the Best Ideas. The Best Ideas mean the Best City. He doesn’t have much political experience but let’s get real! It’s time to take out the old and bring in the new!
Nenshi is a Calgary kid. He was one of us. He grew up in the great City of Calgary. Some of you might be thinking, “Well Barb Higgins is from Calgary. She’s also a person who can connect with Calgarians. Why not her?” Barb Higgens guys? Really? Didn’t you guys hear about what happened the other day on Breakfast Television? The interviewer asked her some questions, which weren’t even aimed against her, and she flipped out. Are you really going to vote for a mayor who can’t control her temper? Even if the questions were aimed to bring her down, if you’re running for office, you need to be ready to take on the crowd. You will be getting harsh treatment, a lot! We need a mayor who will be able to handle the hostility and toughness the council will be bringing on that person. That’s another reason why you need to vote Naheed Nenshi. While at a youth forum at the University, many harsh and rude comments were thrown at him from the crowd. However, just smiled politely, kept his cool, and carried on. That’s the kind of mayor we need. A fighter. A mayor who can defend himself and stick to what he believes in.
So vote Nenshi. This man knows what we need, he knows what we want, and most importantly, he knows how to get us there. With him, Calgary will bloom. Thanks.
