Question by Brian W: how can i promote my music and get heard?
I am a up & coming rapper signed with a small indie label called lyrical mastery records. check out the page and music soundclick.com/itzyaboybugz. I call myself Bug-Z. I record using M Powered Pro Tools Essentials and the M Powered Producer USB Condenser Mic. My producer Big Billz makes the instrumentals using Fruity Loops and he records vocals the same as me. He mixes and edits my songs. We are very good. I am having trouble building the proper recognition. I want to be on the radio. I want my songs heard. I already use soundclick, myspace, facebook, twitter and cdbaby to promote myself. I want to BLOW UP!! any ideas on how?

Keep doing what you have been doing.

Upload mix tapes onto torrents. Upload songs to youtube. Just keep putting your music out there.

Get it on youtube. Youtube’s BIG right now. But make sure you put your label/name into the video to avoid fakers.

    Good luck!

ya just make some songs and then you “get found” and its coke and sluts from there on out.

First off, seperate yourself from the pack. Don’t present yourself like other independent rappers or bands do. Don’t spam people or companies saying “Check out my track” or anything similar. Get all your ducks in a row by:
    1) Writing a professional bio or hiring someone to do this.
    2) Taking professional promo photos
    3) Launching an official website
    4) Releasing a professionally done CD
    5) Build and keep in touch with your fanbase with a mailing list
    6) Contact music blogs, websites, podcasts, radio and magazines requesting coverage. There are specific ways that this needs to be done. It may even be a good idea to hire a publicist to do this for you. This will build your press page and your credibility.
    7) Perform live as often as possible, and in as many places as possible.
    8) Post quality Youtube videos as often as possible.
    9) Give out free sampler CD’s as often as possible.
    10) Use Torrents, forums and messageboards to your advantage. Give free music to anyone who is willing to repost it or spread the word. At first, you give it away. Then, when the momentum builds, the money will roll right in.
